You Are The One
This song claims that, amid so many competing voices out there, God is the only one who can guarantee a certain grace and fulfillment in life.
But who am I to make this claim? As a Christian, it feels arrogant to say to someone else, “You need God, only Jesus can save you…” — especially when considered alongside the messiness of church history. Even to me, God still seems hard to put my finger on sometimes, hard to fit in a box.
Jesus talks about Living Water, that all who drink from it are satisfied and never thirsty again. So do I *feel* satisfied? I don’t know, sometimes…? Am I doing something wrong? I think no one is without the occasional longing and ennui. Part of following Jesus means living in the tension of “the kingdom is coming … eventually” (supremely unsatisfying, yet hopeful).
All I know is my own experience, and my mood is not the point. But in God, I have caught glimpses a love unlike any other and a hope for the multifaceted brokenness of the world. And God has melted my crusty old heart into something new many times over.
So I guess that’s what this song is about. And it chugs along with a fun bossa-nova-inspired groove, featuring 10 layers of vocal harmonies, a rad keyboard solo, and wicked bass work by Nate Caravan.

Lyrics
Who’s the one who watches when I run away?
Sees each little failure and loves me anyway
Who will lead me homeward when the day is done?
I’ve heard a million voices, but you’re the only one
You are, you are
You are the one
Everybody’s hoping to be satisfied
We try in vain to fill the hole we have inside
We look around for something new under the sun (new under the sun)
Well you have made me new, I guess you are the one
You are, you are
You are the one
You are, you are
You are the one
You are, you are
You are the one
You are, you are
You are the one
You are, you are
You are the one
You are, you are
You are the one
